Teacher Preparation and Support Department
Educators Rising is a powerful, passionate network of people committed to developing highly skilled teachers for the 21st century. It is the only national pre-collegiate program for prospective teachers. Clubs have been established at many district high schools and middle schools to foster student interest in pursuing careers in education.
Facilitated and inspired by a dedicated teacher leader, club participants gain a realistic understanding of the nature of education and the role of the teacher. They have opportunities to explore the pathways to careers in education, participate in college conferences and college visits, serve as peer tutors, plan and deliver lesson plans, and much more.
San Diego Unified is committed to recruiting future educators with diverse ethnic, racial, social, and economic backgrounds. Educators Rising provides a great link to the district's efforts to address the current teacher shortage by encouraging current students (members of the diverse communities the district serves) to join its ranks as teachers.
