BACKGROUND:

Congressman Lewis, Aydin and Powell are visiting Morse High during High School Voter Education Weeks (Sept. 17-28), while students throughout the San Diego Unified School District and California learn about civic engagement and participate in student-led efforts to pre-register to vote. While reading "March," students have studied Lewis' lifelong commitment to fight for civil rights. The visit brings to life those lessons and his involvement in the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Congressman Lewis, Aydin and Powell's visit is among more than 100 One Book-related lectures, exhibits, workshops and film screenings to be held throughout San Diego County and Northern Baja through the fall. The events are in partnership with 80 educational institutions, public libraries, and service organizations and One Book, One San Diego.

One Book, One San Diego has selected "March" as its 2018 book. Each year, One Book, One San Diego and its partners feature one book for adults, one for teens, one for children and one for Spanish speakers. This year, One Book, One San Diego received over 500 nominations and chose one book & "March" - for three of the categories - adults, teens and Spanish-speakers. "Blue Sky, White Stars" is the children's selection.
