San Diego High School To Host 2nd Annual Binational “Balboa Cup” Soccer Tournament
This tournament will feature boys and girls teams comprised of student athletes from San Diego and Tijuana High Schools.

In collaboration with the San Diego Unified School District and School Board Trustee Dr. Mike McQuary, the San Diego International Sister Cities Association will host the 2nd annual international Sister City All Star Soccer Tournament at San Diego High School's Balboa Stadium.

The soccer games are being played this week is to coincide with Tijuana's 130 Anniversary of its founding on July 11th, and San Diego's 250 anniversary of July 16th-- the day of the tournament. The Balboa Cup is officially recognized as part of the San Diego 250 Celebration. www.sandiego250.com

Athletes from eleven different high schools from six school districts stretching from Carlsbad to Chula Vista are participating as the San Diego All Star Team. Boys team is made up of student athletes from San Diego High School, Hoover, Eastlake, Canyon Crest Academy, and Coronado High Schools. The Girls are from La Costa Canyon, Canyon Crest, Westview, Escondido Charter, Rancho Bernardo, Eastlake and Poway High Schools.

More details will be available at a press conference on July 12 at San Diego High School.
“This bi-national student soccer tournament is another way that we can break down barriers between people through sports diplomacy,” said McQuary, SanDISCA Board President and San Diego Unified school board member.

The City of San Diego has 16 official international relationships in 15 countries around the globe. President Dwight Eisenhower started Sister Cities International in 1957 to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation one individual, one community at a time.
