Student “Chavistas” from 22 San Diego Unified Schools Honor Cesar Chavez at 10th Annual Mañanitas Breakfast

More than 150 students will take part in the celebration of the civil rights leader's birthday.

WHAT:The 10th Annual Las Mañanitas Breakfast will host over one hundred elementary and middle school students who participate in the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs. Since 2001, the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs have offered San Diego Unified students meaningful and innovative leadership development opportunities. The clubs are built on the ten values of Cesar Chavez and are designed to engage club members in leadership and community service activities. The San Diego Unified School District has the largest number of Cesar Chavez Service Clubs in California with more than 30 throughout the district. This year the event will honor Eliseo Medina, a Mexican American labor union activist and leader for immigration reform.
