Rodd Cooksey, in his first year as Lincoln High girls basketball head coach, wanted to improve how the team kept stats. He noticed something peculiar this month when adding up point totals for his daughter, senior guard Tarazjanae Cooksey. She was closing in on 1,000 career points. When Rod saw this, the Hornets were preparing for a Jan. 17 matchup with Patrick Henry and Tarazjanae was six points away from the mark. She passed that easily, scoring her 1,000th point with a free throw. Tarazjanae finished with a season-high 28 points in the Hornets' 84-49 win over the Patriots.
