San Diego Unified, Community Partners to host Celebration of Light
WHAT: San Diego Unified and more than 20 partners, including the ACLU and San Diego Unified Council of PTAs, will host the Celebration of Light to support the rights of all students, regardless of race, color, national origin, immigration status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or religion to be educated in an environment free from fear, violence and intimidation.

DETAILS: San Diego Unified is committed to providing each and every child with a world-class education, and this commitment requires removing all social and emotional barriers to instruction. To this end, the district's Family and Parent Engagement Department and more than 20 community partners are gathering to provide resources and support to families who may feel vulnerable as a result of the country's current civil climate. The Celebration of Light will feature the following:
- Important facts for diverse families
- Immigration advice
- Healthcare information
- LGBTQIA resources
- Muslim student support
- Unifying crafts for young children
- Food trucks and bag lunches
Entertainment includes performances by the Youth Pride Marching Band, the Mission Bay High School Preservationists, the ImpACT on Stage theater group and Ballet Folklorico.
SPEAKERS: Supt. Cindy Marten and Board Trustees Michael McQuary, Richard Barrera, Kevin Beiser, John Lee Evans and Sharon Whitehurst-Payne.
PHOTOS/VISUALS: Musical and theater performances, attendees visiting sponsor tables, speakers addressing crowd.
