San Diego Unified to Issue Update on Phase 1, Plans for Phase 2 of Reopening

WHAT: The San Diego Unified School District will provide an update on the next reopening phase. The district recently released new details on the next phases of reopening schools, outlining which student groups will be the next to return.

WHEN: Tuesday, Oct. 27, 12 p.m.

WHERE: Gage Elementary School, 6811 Bisby Lake Ave., San Diego, 92119 

SPEAKERS:  Principal Kathy Burns, Board of Education President Dr. John Lee Evans, Board Vice President Richard Barrera, Superintendent Cindy Marten 

BACKGROUND: San Diego Unified elementary school teachers returned to campus to provide appointment-based, in-person instruction for students with the greatest needs on Oct. 13 under Phase 1 of reopening. The district plans to expand Phase 1 to provide appointment-based, in-person instruction for secondary students grades 6-12 and children in the infant/toddler and early-learning programs.

In outlining details of the future reopening phases, the district announced Phase 2 will open up in-person learning to all elementary students and staff under a split schedule designed to facilitate social distancing. Details on all four phases of reopening are available online.
