BACKGROUND: The Board of Education appointed a 48-member Superintendent Search Advisory Committee to oversee the process of filling the top position in California’s second-largest school district. The Advisory Committee reflects the diversity of San Diego Unified students and the San Diego Community. The panel includes members from nonprofit and civic organizations; elected officials, student, staff and parent organizations; and educational institutions.
The Advisory Committee has reviewed all applications from candidates who met the minimum qualifications and will recommend up to ten candidates to be interviewed by the Board of Education. On December 14, the board will select up to three final candidates. A community forum for the public to meet the three finalists and provide input will be held in early January. The board will appoint a permanent superintendent in January, with a formal introduction set for January 18 at the State of the District Address.
The board appointed longtime San Diego Unified educator, Dr. Lamont Jackson, as Interim Superintendent after former Superintendent Cindy Marten was named Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.
This event is for professional journalists. Please confirm attendance in advance.
