BACKGROUND:
Since April 2017, San Diego Unified has aggressively worked to provide the cleanest drinking water to its students. Following a districtwide water testing initiative, a strict action level that is three times stronger than legal requirements was adopted in 2020. To meet the stringent 1 part per billion district action level, the district has set out to provide drinking water districtwide through filtered hydration stations.

San Diego Unified’s clean water program was developed with assistance by CALPIRG, and new community partners are joining the effort by providing reusable water bottles for students.
